Rosemary Beach is a neo-traditional town located on northwest Florida's gulf coast, between Panama City and Destin, at the eastern end of Scenic Route 30A. It is truly one of the most charming places I have every visited, a precious little village where everything is in walking distance and their are boardwalks throughout the entire town to lead you to your destination.
Beautiful courtyards and green areas abound at Rosemary. Every home has its own unique style that contributes to the town complete. In 1995, Rosemary Beach was born. It was founded on New Urbanism and Traditional Neighborhood Development principles and inspired by other classic beach towns. The 107-acre town was designed to build community, have vibrant neighborhoods and convenience for its residents.
Each house is developed to take advantage of the outdoors, most have wrap around porches and outdoor living spaces.
Green spaces like these can be used by anyone living or staying in Rosemary Beach on vacation.
The beaches on the gulf coast are like sugar under your toes, white and pristine. The water is crystal clear turquoise blue, a setting that is spectacular.
The architecture of Rosemary Beach resembles a mixture of St. Augustine, the West Indies, New Orleans and Charleston. A rich palette of colors in subtle, natural tones gives each house its own unique style but is still woven into the overall fabric of Rosemary Beach.
Materials used in the majority of the homes in Rosemary Beach are wood siding, cedar shingle or stucco with metal or shingle shake roofing. High ceilings and deep eaves provide dramatic style and silhouettes unqiue to Rosemary.
Downtown Rosemary is home to fabulous shops and restaurants all accessible by foot or bike. Auto traffic is discouraged creating a neighborhood feel.
And who wouldn't want to have this to walk to daily? I'm so excited about this wonderful project. I can't wait to show you our plans for the interior furnishings. I'll be back later this week with my next installment. Until then, drool over these beautiful images of Rosemary Beach architecture.
We'll talk soon.

Lucky, lucky you to get to work on a project here! We always go to the beach in California (my husband's grandparents bought a family beach house in Laguna Beach in the 60s, and it has been renovated in recent years) - but there are so many beaches in Florida that I would love to see. I have also heard amazing things about Alys beach.
ReplyDeleteGreat project, Gwen! I've done some studying of the new urbanism, and it is a facinating plan for mixing the charm of the "old" days of the neighborhood with the technology and edgyness of the city. I'm a big fan, and I'm thinking Rosemary Beach might just be my next vacation spot! Can't wait to see more.

ReplyDeleteWow, when I lived in Memphis for a short time all of my classmates would head to Destin on holidays. We more often went to the Atlantic Coast, or South to Naples. I am really intrigued.... This looks like the perfect spot. Cannot wait to see how your project evolves.
ReplyDeletei remember reading about this in the initial stages. this is the finest example of current development..........the look of age, charactor and a sense of belonging. wow gwen, how exciting!

Dear Gwen,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic project. The setting looks spectacular-pristine beaches and so many beautiful architectural elements for you to work with. You must be very excited! Thank you for adding me to your blog roll-you know, you are one of my favorites!
all the best, Barbara
Quaint and charming! Thanks for sharing, love the white sands of the panhandle.
ReplyDeleteThank you for a trip down memory lane. A few years back we vacationed there and absolutely loved it. I was in heaven walking around looking at all the beautiful homes and architecture.
ReplyDeleteAt night, we would take walks throughout the homes in hopes they had lights on so we could get a glimpse inside to look at the beautiful interiors.
If I ever get a second home, this is where I would want it to be.
Wow! What a line up.
ReplyDeleteI sent you an email. Sorry it is last minute. Please take a minute to respond.
Thanks!
Catherine

You are so lucky! I can't wait to see your work! I have never been to rosemary beach, but it looks like I might have to plan a trip!!
ReplyDeleteGwen this project would be amazing and congrat's to you. Thank you for showing us the architecture of Rosemary Beach. I had not heard of it but we were talking about Destin just the other day. I couldn't possibly pick a favorite architectural design; each home is just as spectacular as the next. I'm thrilled for you & for one will be anxious to see & read more about your progress. Big hug x
ReplyDeleteGwen,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post. 30-A is such a gem, especially with the two New Urbanism towns. I look forward to see what you design for the home. My family bought a house down the road in Seaside over 20 years ago, and it is my favorite place to vacation especially now with kids.
Thanks,
Missy
Perfection Gwen x
ReplyDeleteHi Gwen, this is a favorite place of mine to visit; I remember Rosemary Beach long before the community was built..it is incredibly well designed and utterly charming. We were just there in January, the beaches spectacular and virtually empty. It's a gorgeous spot and will be following your project with great interest! Congratulations!

Rosemary beach looks lovely. I've stayed at Seaside which is close by and loved it too. Very similar concept. One of the reasons I love living in England is that we walk almost everywhere. ie. work, butchers, green grocers, shops etc. Walking is such a luxury and its great to see new communities embracing a simple but elegant way of living. I can't wait to see your new Rosemary beach project. I'm sure it will be fab!
ReplyDeletegreat post. we will be there next week. the house we stay in is the one to right of the home in the last image. you can see the side porch:)
